Young Chef Inspires Central Pa to Host Upcoming “Alex’s Chili Cook-Off for A Cause” On September 25, 2022

With a mission of “bringing people together with food” and helping to carry on their son’s legacy, the Alex Smith family and their Foundation will once again host Alex’s Chili Cook-Off For A Cause on Sunday, September 25 at Greystone Public House, Harrisburg. Alex worked as a chef apprentice at Greystone prior to his tragic passing in 2018.

Foundation President and Alex’s Mom, Terri Smith said, “We look forward to Alex’s Chili Cook-off every year and to seeing the community and Alex’s friends, family and former culinary students gather to honor our beautiful son, who left us way too soon and had such a big heart. Our wonderful son was an energetic and ambitious 22-year-old who attended the HACC culinary program. He also was an incredible chef apprentice at Greystone Public House when he passed away and also enjoyed sports and serving in the Children’s Ministry.  Alex had dreams of opening his own restaurant to share his love of good eats with others, so we created the annual chili cook-off to celebrate Alex and offer fun for all ages. That’s why we created The Alex W. Smith Foundation, to honor the memory of our amazing son, Alex.  Keeping Alex’s memory alive is what keeps us inspired. We are grateful that even in his passing, his legacy of bringing people together with food is thriving and helping the futures of other students.”
